Nina Rox Xarah
Yes, she Rox
Nina grew up in the Bay Area doing as she was told, getting good grades (graduated UC Berkeley -- an education she paid for herself) and the corresponding nine to five job in the growing tech market right about the time of that late 90’s bubble. All gravy right?
Well, when she bumped her head on the glass ceiling for the 14th time, she knew it was time to bring a hammer. Smashing through the preconceived notions of her life, she left it all behind. She sold the house, bought a ticket to Spain (where she’d always dreamed of living) and said, “Hasta la vista, baby”. Never mind that she didn’t know a soul there, had a meager bank account (minus that plane ticket to boot) and knew only for certain that she didn’t want to return to her old job...if she returned at all.
Three months of European studies, jaunting about with other international travelers and seeing the world anew helped her realize something else: she is, at heart, truly an American who doesn’t want the nine to five, but definitely wants the creature comforts of the good old U.S. of A..
So she returned and hit the ground running by starting up her own PR/Event Design business. She also rapidly checked off a list of life dreams she thought would last a lot longer than they did:
Skydiving - check
Being/Dancing in Music Video - check
Singing on stage in front of tons of people - check
Poetry published (with award, thank you) - check
And as with any dream (or any list for that matter), checking off one only seems to encourage two or three more to pop up. At the same time, that experience breeds confidence and patience -- two things she brings to events. The most important thing she brings, however, are her adoption papers.
“If I don’t feel like the client wants to adopt me at the end of the night, then I feel like something’s gone wrong,” she says. “Most of our events are very personal. I am there to act on their behalf. I want to blend into the family.”
