David is a dramatic, fighting banana slug. Deal with it.
To explain: David graduated with a degree in theater (making him dramatic) from UC Santa Cruz (making him a fighting banana slug, as that is their mascot) .
His favorite theatrical art form is improvisation. At the heart of improvisation is being centered, in the moment and listening fully to the others around (or on stage) with the performer. And that, in a nutshell, is what you want from your staff at your event. Why? By it’s nature, improv trains performers to be ready for anything at anytime. You don’t think “anythings” happen all the time at events? Boy howdy, we could tell you!
.
And as for customer service, Denon & Doyle first noticed him at a local restaurant where he was serving some of our staff. Bluntly, he was “slammed” (i.e.: there were way too many customers in his section sat all at once for any person shy of eight arms and four heads to deal with effectively). He politely told us that he knew we were there and he was sorry for not getting to us right away. He assured us he would be back as quick as he could. Showing that he was a man of his word a minute later was enough for us to ask him in for an interview.
Oh -- and don’t worry about the whole “fighting banana slug” thing. We can assure you he won’t fight, less it’s for your right to party; he doesn’t leave a trail, except for that of a good time and as bananas go, that simply describes his personality...which we find rather delicious.
