The Rhythmic Conductor

Ever needed that perfect word or phrase to communicate what you were thinking only to have it remain just beyond the tip of your tongue? Maybe it wasn’t a word you were looking for but a sound; maybe even some “body percussion”. All 10,000 jokes aside about the possible interpretations of the phrase, “body percussion”, communication is the name of the game when it comes to running a perfect event. And Bronkar is a guy who knows a thing or three about listening, interpreting information and delivering.

Take the year he spent in Switzerland recently touring with a circus (reread that sentence if you need to, we’ll wait). His character in the show was the Mayor, a regal sort of leader who ran his fair city by making proclomations, declarations and a whole lot of snap, clap and slap noises with his body (a.k.a. “body percussion”). This was especially effective in communicating a message to an audience who might not know what he was saying verbally (the Swiss largely speak German), but definitely felt his vibe rhythmically. To wit, he has been unofficially nominated for recognition in the Guiness Book of World Records for getting more than 100,000 Swiss people to beat box -- whether or not that was simultaneous remains to be explored (and it may well be the sticking point).

Another way to communicate is through service. His experience in the “Maid Brigade” while working at Yellowstone Park’s Old Faithful Inn taught him the importance of providing guests a clean and comfortable environment; never mind the fact that the first bed he ever made in his life was his first day on the job. Being open to new experiences gave him the opportunity to learn some “Hippie Drumming”, something a young man from Athens, GA usually never even begins to conceive of.

The greatest communication he’s learned, though, has been using the language of love. He’s very happily engaged to his fiancee, Cindy. Five and half years in the making, including that year apart while he taught Swiss the finer points of conversation via percussive spitting, Bronkar has learned some of the happiest interchange is downtime enjoying a glass of wine, a good movie and Cindy by his side.

It seems the word for that is: “Awwwww”.
